1. The race
The amateur paddling marathon race.
2. Place and time
START: 27.09.2008. 7:oo AM o'clock, Lubana lake, 2km E from the Aiviekste river fall out). On site registering of the participants 6:00 - 6:30 (AM).
FINISH: Arona - right bank tributary. Near Kalsnava village.
Checkpoints and checktimes:
1) Lubana city, at the 38th km - 7 hours. Checkpoint will be closed at 14:oo
Checking of the mandatory gear at this checkpoint.
Teams failing to show up by 14:oo will be disqualified and withdrawn from the race.
2) FINISH, 100km - 16 hours, 23:oo o'clock. The race participants arriving after 23:00 must report to the race official individually.
3. Participants
Everybody capable to complete the course and who has signed up in one of the race categories and has paid a participation fee. The competition categories are:
Sea kayaks
Tandem kayaks
Tandem canoes
4-man canoes
Voyager canoe (8-12 people)
Other (SOT, oar boats etc.)
Participants younger than 18 could participate in this race if accompanied by parent or another authorized adult.
4. Race order and judging
The winner is the first team reporting at the FINISH. By class, of course.
Start order (in 10 minute intervals): canoe, "others", tandem kayaks, 4-man canoes and Voyageurs, sea kayaks. Start is open 60 minutes by 8:oo;
If the team fail to show up in the first checkpoint by 14:oo, but arrive before 15:oo, it looses only half of the bid bond and will be transported to the finish (except Voyager class).
After 15:oo o'clock every inquiry for collection from the distance will be done in accordance to p.7.
5. Gear
Standar touring and sea kayaks and canoes are allowed. Flat water competition boats, marathon canoes or alike are not allowed.
Sails, oars aren't allowed as well (except Voyageur class), canoe paddles only in canoe class.
Kayaks and canoes w/o bulkheads should be equipped with extra floatation.

At the checkpoint upon inventory control for every missing item (marked **) 15 minute penalty will be assigned. The items marked by one asterisk (*) should be present at the start and checkponts.
6. Assistance and support teams
No assistance from aside or support teams (except the photography for your family album) is allowed during the course. No water or food supplies, no help in portages or whatever. Everything you need you should bring and carry with you in the boat.
In the case of such support incident during the course, the teams (wich received this support) should declare this to race official within 30 minutes after finish.
The race official will decide regarding possible action for every speciffic case. If such a case is declared by competing teams and could be proved as such, and could be considered as an action giving a certain advantage over competition, the responsible team will be disqualified.
7. Drop-outs and shuttles
Race organizers will provide the shuttle transport to finish location for the exausted teams, but only from two major locations: Lubana (1st checkpoint) and Vecsaikava village.
At registration teams pay a 10.- LVL bid bond. This is returned at the finish against the number bib or is lost in case the team is asking for transport shuttle from the distance. Exceptions according to p.4.
8. Applications
To apply for the race one should fill in the application form (on-line) and pay a fee.
The race fee is 10 LVL per person.
9. Responsibility
Participants accept these rules and take a full responsibility regarding their own fittness and capacity. They agree to keep the organizers free and away of any possible claim arising from any possible unlikely event or consequences arising of thier own or other participants action, faulty estimations, external obstacles or nature forces.
The mandatory equipment list set by these rules should be considered as a minimal prerequisite. The participants are rseponsible on their own to take a proper gear and food for this day-long course. |
